Under the Radar will be presenting Brooklyn indie band Hawk and Dove at the end of May. Hawk and Dove has been described as “the loudest quiet band you have ever heard.” The band released their debut album last year entitled This Yesterday Will Never End. Steven and the Savvy is a collective of musicians based out of Bloomington with an eclectic style of indie rock. Ryan Puett is a local Indianapolis singer-songwriter that does a variety of folk-inspired music. Check out all of this great music for $5! Doors open at 8pm with music starting at 9pm. AIDS Candlelight Memorial Event–May 18th

Give Hope, Fight Poverty is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to foster philanthropy domestically by designing service-learning programs that engage US students and professionals with communities abroad and work together to educate, empower and lift orphaned and vulnerable children out of poverty. They are hosting an International AIDS Candlelight Memorial event May 18th from 9pm-midnight. You can find out more details and RSVP on their facebook event page.

First Friday–May 3rd!

First Friday is tomorrow and we have a wonderfully talented featured arts for May: Michelle Pendergrass. Through the use of mixed media and acrylics, Michelle is able to process life through her creativity. “Ugly and beautiful intersect on canvas as I work through figuring out who I am and what’s left of me as I dig through the layers to unearth that which I thought was dead. The loss is extravagant. The Grace is sufficient.” –From Michelle’s artist statement. You can find more information about Michelle and her art on her website.

Community Conversations–Tuesday April 2nd!

Tuesday, April 2nd, we will be hosting a Community Conversation. Jessi from Fletcher Place Community Center will be sharing about the organization. The purpose of the evening is to learn more about local organizations making a difference in our communities. As a southeast neighborhood resident, I’m excited to hear about Fletcher Place Community Center and their goals for my community. Come by Tuesday evening at 7pm for a relaxed conversation. Refreshments will be provided.

This Saturday–Easter Basket Making!

This Saturday, March 30th, RoE Creations will be hosting an Easter Chocolate Basket making event from 11AM-1PM. Bring the family to learn how to make chocolate for Easter and build your own Easter baskets. The cost is $10 per child and $5 per sibling. There will be coloring pages, activities and free snacks & beverages! You will need to RSVP ahead of time so all the necessary supplies will be ready for you. On February 28th at 7pm, Emily Litsey will be teaching an art class on acrylic paint and an introduction to landscape techniques. The cost for this event is $15 and covers the lesson, materials, and refreshments. Come hangout, have fun, and leave with your own work of art!

Fletcher Place Arts and Books Internship Program

The Fletcher Place Arts and Books Internship program is designed to be creative, hands-on and flexible. We are seeking applicants who are eager to become involved in creating events that connect community, literacy and art as well as individuals who are considering a career in the creative arts.

Arts Administration Intern

The Arts Administration Intern offers opportunity to learn aspects of gallery administration, art handling and installation, fundraising, event coordination and public relations. Responsibilities range from running First Friday events, installing art for events, creating advertisements and working with others on events that promote literacy, art and community. This position will be suit an individual who is eager, flexible and works well individually as well as with small groups. In this position, the intern will have flexibility and be able to see his or her own project ideas come to life during the internship.

Scheduling of work time can be flexible to fit each intern’s needs. We ask for a commitment of 5-10 hours a week for at least 8 weeks. All internships are unpaid and arrangement for school credit is encouraged if applicable.
